While PTC’s Windchill remains a popular PLM solution, more and more organizations are embracing SaaS.  This transition to cloud-based products has businesses expecting their PLM solution to adapt with them. For many, SaaS isn’t just a want, but a need. Let’s explore how PTC is conforming to their customer needs with Windchill+.

Software as a Service

Software as a Service or SaaS is a cloud-based service that allows users to access an application through a web browser. This is a unique system as it allows users to work from anywhere without any prior downloads. SaaS is flexible, scalable, and secure as well as an amazing facilitator for collaboration. For all of these reasons, many businesses are switching to SaaS applications.

Windchill+

Windchill+ is PTC’s next-generation product lifecycle management (PLM) platform. While it is a SaaS platform, it is also designed to provide enhanced capabilities and features over traditional PLM systems. There are many benefits of Windchill+ such as reduced cost, faster implementation, easy scalability, and continuous updates. As a PTC partner, SPK provides tailored solutions to help businesses integrate Windchill+ into their operations. We sell Windchill+ licenses and our experts can help implement it for you. Explore more about Windchill+ and the switch to SaaS in the following video from PTC.

Windchill+ and Creo+

As the video stated, many organizations are looking to transition Windchill to SaaS which led to the creation of Windchill+. If however, PTC users wish to instead transition their CAD to SaaS rather than their PLM system, they can. PTC has announced a full commitment to long-term support of SaaS-based Creo+ with on-premises versions of Windchill. Prior to this announcement, PTC’s Creo+ CAD system was compatible with on-premises versions of Windchill only through Windchill 13, requiring Creo+ customers to transition to SaaS-based Windchill+ in the future. Now, there are no requirements to transition to Windchill+.

While SaaS-based Creo+ and Windchill+ are ideally suited to take advantage of today’s cloud technologies, such as entitlement management and real-time collaboration, customers can now choose when and if they want to migrate to a SaaS version of Windchill. PTC will publish a compatibility matrix between Creo+ and on-premises Windchill, just as there is for on-premises Creo and Windchill. Creo and Creo+ will support similar versions of on-premises Windchill which will evolve over time. Regardless of the compatibility matrix, Creo+ will always be compatible with Windchill+.

Transitioning to Windchill+

If transitioning to SaaS is something your business is interested in, consider Creo+ and Windchill+ as your CAD and PLM services. Their flexibility, quick implementation, and extensive integration capabilities make them great solutions. If you would like to get started with Windchill+, or have questions about SaaS or other PTC solutions, contact our experts today.
