There’s been a lot of innovation, software and product releases in the past six months alone. So, we are rounding up the best tech review and engineering releases for the first half of 2022.
The tech forecast for 2022 was heavily influenced by how the world adjusted in the pandemic. Remote work became a normal activity and optional practice for organizations, cloud maturity and adoption have become the forethought of stabilizing digital economies, and the Great Resignation helped teams identify where they could “LEAN up”. Agile and automation processes allowed for an optimized workforce and faster speed to market.
2022 Tech Review
PTC Has Been Busy
PTC Creo 9 arrived earlier this year. And it delivers the best designs in less time. Following PTC’s acquisitions and partnerships (e.g. with Ansys) they continued to show maturity in the design tools and technology.
With the latest release users can enjoy improvements to both the performance and workflow. From Model Based Definition (MBD) to the new usability and productivity enhancements that are customer-driven and split surfaces to allow for easier analysis and definition.
The enhancements to the ergonomic design and visual analysis tools, as well as the generative design and simulation, are an absolute win for MCAD and ECAD designers alike.
PTC also acquired Intland which develop the Codebeamer Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) family. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of this fiscal year and will aim to both broaden and deepen PTC’s strengths in PLM and model-based systems engineering. Watch this space as PTC plans to offer Codebeamer as both standalone, and in conjunction with its Windchill and Arena offerings.
Atlassian Extending Cloud Platform Tech Review
Atlassian announced a plethora of releases and updates for 2022. Including more tools and integrations for collaboration.
Their new standalone tool “Atlas” aims to improve transparency and share the team workloads. Another major release was that of Compass. Compass provides mission control as a developer experience platform and acts as an enhanced Confluence with smart fields and scorecards to help improve and understand the impacts of downtime.
Atlassian’s investment in Analytics is another exciting release and the evolution of the Chartio platform gives the ability for modern, responsive and interactive charts. Data Lakes also got an update with exposure of cross-product and cross-instance data with pre-modelled and enriched fields, it speeds up insights with their Cloud products.
SolidWorks Evolution Tech Review
SolidWorks has upgraded a world of features to their products for 2022 that streamline and accelerate the development process. With SolidWorks 2022, you can work faster, smarter and more collaboratively than ever. With improvements for working with large assemblies, product data geometry and more, users can now enjoy the freedom of faster graphics and improved display features.
There’s also been updates to Dassault’s 3DExperience to improve the efficiency, accuracy and collaboration capabilities.
Enterprise Feature Management With CloudBees
In April, CloudBees announced the launch of their free full-featured Community Management Edition for enterprise management teams. With the new edition, enterprise feature flagging becomes available to development teams.
This offering allows for up to 15 developers to use feature flags at scale, removing technical debt and governance issues as features are released. It also enables flag approvals, flag lifecycles, a relay proxy, webhooks, audit logs, flag scheduling, and full access to the many software development kits available from CloudBees
Aside from integrating with Jenkins, CloudBees Feature Management offers 250,000 client-side monthly active users and 100 million impressions per month. What a great way to drive continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD)?
Mainframes And Amazon Web Services (AWS)
In early June, AWS announced the general availability of AWS Mainframe modernization to make it faster and easier for customers to modernize mainframe workloads. By transforming traditional mainframe applications and moving to the cloud customers can enjoy AWS’s superior agility, elasticity, and cost savings by reusing existing code and with minimal changes.
With no upfront costs, customers only pay for the amount of compute provisioned to run both refactored and replatformed applications. To get started with the AWS Mainframe Modernization service.
AWS Mainframe Modernization provides a complete development and runtime environment that makes it faster and easier for customers to modernize and run their mainframe workloads on AWS.
